Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what we usually get asked

How do I know what size solar system and battery I need?

Every home is different, which is why there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solar and battery system.

Our qualified team carefully designs your system around your current energy usage, future plans, and expected changes in performance over time.

By taking these factors into account, we ensure your system is built to maximise savings, reliability, and long-term performance for years to come.

Why are your prices more expensive than other quotes?

The simple answer comes down to two things: quality materials and quality workmanship.

A solar and battery system isn't a "slap it on and leave" type of installation. Every system we install is carefully thought out to achieving a premium finish, such as neatly concealed cabling, correct system design, correct settings, thorough testing, and quality workmanship, takes time and attention to detail.

We also choose to work with some of the most reputable brands in the industry, ensuring you receive reliable products, stronger warranties, and a system designed to deliver maximum performance for years to come.

How long does installation take?

Our in-house team can spend up to two days ensuring your system is installed correctly, from clean cable management and concealed wiring through to detailed testing and commissioning to ensure everything is performing as it should.

While some installations may be completed faster, and we have the option to as well, rushing a job can lead to compromises in workmanship and attention to detail. We believe in doing it right the first time, protecting your home and ensuring your system is built to perform for years to come.

Can I add a battery to my existing system?

Absolutely you can, in many cases you can add a battery to your existing solar system. However, it depends on the age, condition, and performance of your current panels and inverter.

Our team will assess how much energy your system is currently exporting to the grid and determine how much of that excess energy can be redirected into a battery instead.

We will also consider the remaining lifespan of your existing panels. If your system is older, you may need to upgrade parts of it in the future to ensure your battery continues receiving enough solar energy to perform effectively.

Are batteries safe?

Yes. Reputable home batteries are designed with multiple built-in safety features and, when installed correctly by qualified solar electricians, are extremely safe.

However, even the highest-quality battery on the market relies on correct installation. Poor workmanship, incorrect placement, inadequate protection, or not following manufacturer requirements can compromise the safety and performance of the system.

The quality of the installer is just as important as the quality of the battery itself. A premium product installed correctly by an experienced team ensures your system operates safely, reliably, and as intended for years to come.

What brands of panels, inverters, and batteries do you recommend?

We only install products from reputable manufacturers that have a proven track record for performance, reliability, and long-term support.

The energy industry is evolving rapidly, which is why we continually review new technologies and products to ensure we are offering homeowners solutions that deliver the best balance of performance, value, and reliability.

Our current range of products include AIKO and Jinko solar panels, paired with leading battery solutions from Tesla, Sigenergy, Sungrow, and GoodWe.

What maintenance does a solar system need?

Like any investment, your solar and battery system benefits from regular care to ensure it continues performing at its best.

We recommend having your panels professionally cleaned and inspected at least once a year by a solar expert. Incorrect cleaning methods or harsh chemicals can damage the panel surface and impact performance.

Batteries require minimal maintenance, especially when installed indoors. For outdoor installations, keeping the area clear and well ventilated is important to prevent issues such as blocked airflow from debris or nesting animals.

Regular checks help protect your investment and maximise the lifespan of your system.

What are the warranty's?

A warranty is only as good as the company installing your system. If your system isn't installed to the manufacturer's specifications, or the installer is no longer in business, it can make claiming a warranty far more difficult.

Most premium solar panels include a 30-year performance warranty, while inverters and batteries typically come with 10 year product warranties. It's also important to read the fine print. Some cheaper manufactures advertise long warranties, but certain internal components may only be covered for a much much shorter period. Others require scheduled servicing after several years with proof of maintenance to keep the warranty valid.

Incorrect installation can also void manufacturer warranties, leaving you exposed to costly repairs.

If you ask us what we use, we only recommend reputable brands with strong warranty support and ensure every system is installed to manufacturer specifications giving you confidence that your investment is protected for the long term.

Should I be worried about roof leaks?

Our team takes several precautions to minimise any risk, including using the correct flashing methods, following proper tile handling techniques, and ensuring the installation is completed to industry standards. With concrete tiled we grind out a small notch for the solar brackets to sit flush with the roof and request the homeowner have 15-20 spare tiles available.

Before installation, we conduct a detailed roof inspection to identify any existing concerns and recommend having spare roof tiles available. During the installation process, we complete additional checks before the panels are installed to ensure everything has been completed correctly.

How do I choose the right solar company?

Choosing the right solar company has never been more difficult. polished websites, AI-generated marketing, social media videos, and hundreds of fake five-star reviews, it's becoming increasingly hard to separate genuine expertise from clever advertising. We see plenty of solar companies 'showcasing' their work online, however the final product is of poor quality.

We strongly recommend looking beyond the price and doing your research. Check how long the company has been operating through a simple ABN search, what products they are recommending, and whether they use their own in-house team or rely heavily on subcontractors. Is the company designing the system hold the appropriate solar design license issued through Solar Accreditations Australia or are they simply guessing the system size.

It's also important to understand the experience of the installers completing the work, whether they have a proven track record with genuine on-site installations, and if the company has invested back into its business through things like branded vehicles, uniforms, a physical place of business, and ongoing support systems.

Most importantly, consider what happens after installation. A quality solar company should be there to support you with servicing, troubleshooting, and warranty assistance long after your system has been installed.

Buyer Beware - Don't be another statistic

about us

Hey, I'm Shennal

The owner of GreenGEN Solar, and I started this company for one simple reason, to give homeowners the honest advice and quality products they deserve.

Before GreenGEN Solar, our team worked as subcontractors for many different solar companies. More often than not, we were asked to install systems that we knew weren't the right fit for the homeowner.

Un-qualified salespeople with little or no technical knowledge were making recommendations based on price, not what was best for the family living in the home.

Over the years, we've seen the standard of workmanship across many trades decline. Speed & taking shortcuts has become more important than quality, and too often the focus is on getting the job finished rather than getting it done right.

I was fortunate to spend years working on high-end residential and commercial projects, where attention to detail wasn't optional, it was expected. Every cable, every finish, and every installation had to meet an exceptional standard. Today, I bring those same skills, workmanship, and expectations to every GreenGEN Solar installation.

That's why I started GreenGEN Solar.

I wanted to build a company where quality would never be compromised, where every recommendation is based on what's right for the homeowner, not what's easiest to sell.

A company where an experienced team design and install every system, premium products are chosen for long-term performance, and our relationship with the customer doesn't end the day the installation is complete.

Your home is one of your biggest investments. We believe your solar and battery system should be treated the same way.
